To obtain a medical or osteopathic limited x-ray certificate in Tennessee, one must satisfactorily complete a state-approved course, and obtain the appropriate number of hours of supervised clinical practice for each body category, and pass the state-required ARRT Limited Scope exam for limited x-ray. You must also be 18 years of age or older, and possess a high school or GED diploma.

It is a requirement of the state of Tennessee that anyone taking x-rays in a doctor's office or clinic either be a Registered Technologist in good standing with the American Registry of Radiologic Technologist and be registered with the state of Tennessee or obtain a limited certificate from the state of Tennessee.

Tennessee requires limited certificate holders with Medical or Osteopath certificates to obtain 20 credits of approved continuing education each renewal period. Podiatry certificate holders are required to obtain 4 credits of approved continuing education each renewal period. Chiropractic certificate holders are required to obtain 6 credits each year.

The easiest way is to subscribe to X-Ray News and do the Direct Readings in each issue. This will provide 10 credits each year for Medical and 6 credits each year for Chiropractic certificate holders.
